I decided to take on a project and reorganize my wedding albums. I bought new photo albums, organized all of our Essence magazine articles and ordered new photos. All related items were packed in a pretty storage box that included the picture books, invite, ceremony booklet, garter belt, photographers’ selected photo book, reception gift and our wedding website and videos on disks. Tissue paper made of our wedding colors protects the items for years to come. #MarriedLife #FunProject #Memories
To My Husband -
I love you without knowing how or when or from where. This love comes without problems or pride. I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving you. And it is because of this love I have waited patiently in my past lives, to say to you in this life, come and grow old with me because the best is yet to be.
My Husband –
The only man who was able to slip under my skin, invade my blood, and seize my heart. I never loved you any more, than I do, right this second. And I will never love you any less, than I do, right this second. I am forever your wife in this life and the next! Happy Second Wedding Anniversary!
The Hubs and I made Essence.com’s Bridal Bliss: Where Are They Now? featured list. Wow! What an honor! Our piece highlights what we have done since our wedding and feature in Bridal Bliss.

These little moments makes life so special.
I remember, well, no I don’t remember, but I have read about a time when whites and blacks were not allowed to marry in the United States. Interracial couples that married anyway were exiled from there home state or sentenced to prison. If it were not for the case brought by Mildred Loving, a black woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, who had been sentenced to a year in jail in Virginia for marrying each other, my husband and I would not have been able to marry and celebrate any kind of an anniversary.
Today I am honoring the U.S. Supreme Court ruling for throwing out California’s ban on gay marriage by declaring the ban as unconstitutional!!!
Thirteen of the United States 50 states allow same sex marriage and five Native American Tribes have also come around to the same decision. The states and tribes that have approved gay marriages are:
Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, California, Vermont, New Hampshire, Washington, DC, New York, Rhode Island, Delaware, Minnesota, Maine, Maryland and Washington State. The tribes include Coquille Tribe (Oregon), Suquamish Tribe (Washington), Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (Michigan), Podagon Band of Potawatomi Indians (Michigan) and Santa Ysabel Tribe (California).
I am celebrating marriage and happiness for everyone! Therefore, click the photo below to view my wedding photo gallery (never posted) that could not have been possible if bigotry remained in power. Enjoy!
I was looking over my wedding stuff while placing pictures in the photo album of our one year anniversary celebration at Ojo Caliente and realized I didn’t officially share my wedding videos with Permed to Natural readers.
Well I did. I published them in the “All About Me” section but I never placed them in a post for all to easily see.
So, since we are still in the month of celebrating our anniversary, below are my wedding videos. Enjoy!
Highlights of the ceremony and reception
I am so grateful to Essence magazine. This publication has been super supportive of my wedding and I can’t find words to express how I feel. I wanted to tell my relationship story because I knew it would benefit someone. So I put my skills as a publicist to use and crafted my real-life experiences regarding my wedding for all to read and submitted it to Essence magazine.
They loved my story, pictures and location. The hubs and I received recognition on three separate occasions. The first highlight was on Essence.com’s Bridal Bliss. The editor told me that our story was the most popular of 2012! On their Facebook page we received more than 10,000 likes, over 700 comments and 600 plus shares in addition to 140 comments on Essence.com. The second honor came with two Bridal Bliss awards. One for MOST BEAUTIFUL BACKDROP and the other for MOST TOUCHING UNION.
Now I am proud to announce that our story was once again spotlighted in Essence. But this time we are in the magazine! If you purchase the February issue you will find us featured in one of the cover stories titled, “You Can Find Love At Any Age” starting on page 80. We are on page 85! And guess what?! Permed to Natural made the article as well. So how cool is that?!
I am more than excited to tell you all that my wedding earned two aspects of an ESSENCE.com 2012 Bridal Bliss Award!!!
The first award is MOST BEAUTIFUL BACKDROP (picture #2) and the second is MOST TOUCHING UNION (Picture #23).
The editors told me that on Facebook our story was the most popular of 2012 with more than 10,000 likes, over 800 comments and 700 plus shares! And on Essence.com we received more than 140 comments. I have to say – some of the comments were racial but most of them were positive. By telling my story to Essence I accomplished my goal. I wanted to inspire women in their 40s who have not married. The editor said, I did just that!
If you want to, please leave us a congratulatory comment on Essence.com by clicking the link below and going to our pictures.
