GO VEGANS!!!

Thursday, March 17th, 2016

Ummmm. I saw this video by PETA and had to post it. The video was initially slated as a TV commercial but got banned. I don’t think it was banned because it was too sexy I think the commercial was banned because it revealed facts that having a healthy/vegan diet can lead to a better sex life and healthier life overall. Check it out, judge for yourself and share your thoughts. Enjoy!

Why Was This Vegan Commercial Banned From TV?

It has been known forever that vegans generally are in better health than non-vegans. This applies to sexual health as well. Most vegan experts agree that vegans are better in bed than those who consume diets with animal products. Do vegans last longer in bed?

I’d like to know why matters of human health are considered too risqué for TV? Why can we have TV shows and movies on every night that deal with sexuality but as soon as a racy vegan commercial is put on TV it’s too taboo for air? Could it be a conspiracy? It surely can’t because of the content. You can see much worse in the average sitcom.

Is it true that vegans have better sex than non-vegans? How about the claim that vegans ‘last longer? Below is what we do know about a vegan diet.

  • Foods with higher levels of zinc and vitamin B increase sexual desire and libido. These are primarily vegan foods.
  • Vegans typically are slimmer leading to what is widely considered as being sexy (yes we understand many prefer a fuller body)
  • Vegans have been shown to have more energy and stamina than their meat eating counterparts
  • Some studies have shown that vegans smell better, have better skin, and yes…even have better tasting bodily secretions.

While it’s not an absolute that vegans last longer, it’s not an unreasonable assumption. Either way, it really cleared the way for an exciting and attention getting video from PETA! We enjoyed watching it. What do you think?

Portraits on the Cruise

Thursday, February 25th, 2016

I have always enjoyed taking pictures. As I got older I realized the importance of a photo. So on the cruise we took as many pictures as we could. I even organized a photo shoot on Valentines day. We posed for many but the ones below made the cut. Enjoy!

More on Cruise to Mexico

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016

You know seven days wasn’t really enough time to get away. I need two weeks or more to really feel relaxed and happy to return to my home. However, I am happy I had the opportunity to do a week. I had a good time and below are additional photos for you to review. Enjoy!

Cruise to Mexico

Monday, February 22nd, 2016

I continued my birthday celebration with a cruise to Mexico. The Hubs had a birthday too so the trip was a present to ourselves. This was my first cruise and I avoided them for so long because I thought a day or two was not enough time to explore a place, and from what I experienced, I was right.

I did enjoy myself. I just wanted more time at one port. Cruising was smooth except for the last day at sea. The water was rough and the Hubs got sea sick which happened on his birthday! Once the ocean calmed down ( the next morning) he was fine. I was cool the entire time :) .  Will I go on another cruise? Probably. I think I have one more left in me.

My DNA Results Have Arrived!

Monday, February 8th, 2016

This past holiday season my favorite Christmas present from my husband was an AncestryDNA kit. I think I casually mentioned maybe once or twice that I wanted to take the test after watching the commercial on TV. I couldn’t wait to receive my results so I quickly spit in the provided tube and off my DNA went to their laboratory in Utah. Approximately five weeks later I received an email that announced my results were ready. I clicked on it with anticipation and my computer froze. I wanted to scream but I didn’t. I waited for the system to get itself together, and when it did, there before me were my results from 17 different regions. After viewing the chart I discovered that I am:

10622809_1001219939919467_3732035213381563662_n

79% African

  • Ivory Coast/Ghana – 26%
  • Congo – 22% – This may explain why I connected to the people in the Congo when I lived there as a Peace Corps Volunteer
  • Senegal – 16%
  • Benin/Togo – 9%
  • African South-Central Hunter Gatherers – 2%
  • Mali – 2%
  • African Southeastern Bantu – <1%
  • Nigerian – <1%

<1% Asian

  • Asia Central
    • Kazakhstan
    • Iran
    • Kyrqyzstan
    • Turkmenistan
    • Uzbekistan
    • Afghanistan

19% European

  • Great Britain – 11% – This may explain why I connect so easily with everyone I meet from the UK. I often thought I was British in a past life but it turns out I am British in this life.
  • Iberian Peninsula – 2%
  • Italy/Greece – 2%
  • Ireland – 2% – My maiden name is Irish.
  • Scandinavia – <1%
  • Finland/Northwest Russia – <1%
  • Europe East – <1%

<1% West Asian

  • Caucasus Region
    • Ukraine
    • Romania
    • Turkey
    • Syria
    • Iran
    • Iraq
    • Turkmenistan
    • Afghanistan
    • Pakistan
    • Saudi Arabia
    • U.A.E.

I love my results. I knew my bloodline was busy but the Middle East was a surprise. I was also extremely shocked to find that I am 0% Native American. Now see I know many blacks back in the day claimed to have Native blood and I know from watching a PBS special that most blacks do NOT possess Native blood but white blood instead. I know that history but didn’t think I was one of those blacks because I was told my great grandmother was Native. She raised my mother and her children and my mom always said, “Mama was Native American.” In addition my mom has stories of her great grandmother singing Native songs to her when she was a young child. So, with all of that, where is my Native blood?

I started thinking and thinking about my family with a side eye. Who are these people? Then I called Ancestry to discuss my results. I needed more answers. They sent a video that explained siblings can have different DNA results because they inherit half from their mother and half from their father and might not inherit the same half. However children will share the same DNA that their parents have but still won’t inherit all. Okay so again where is my Native blood?

The video continued and explained all DNA from grandparents and great grandparents do NOT pass on to every child. As time goes on through generations one can easily loose strains of DNA.

So that’s what happened to my Native blood? That particular gene, for whatever reason, did not pass on to me. WOW!

I told my mother she should take the test too.

This Is What Fifty Looks Like

Saturday, February 6th, 2016

I can NOT believe this birthday has arrived. My emotions were all over the place. Then I accepted it and fell in love with the facts. There was nothing I  could change so why waste the energy.

I had a good day yesterday. I received lots of birthday wishes on Facebook which made me feel special. Mom and the Hubs took me out and I was grateful. Below are some photos from my special day yesterday.
