I spotted this beauty during a hike in the Santa Fe mountains. This orchid is actually called, Lady Slipper, and is a rare and unusual plant native to northern North America.

Just sharing.

White Sands National Monument

Sunday, May 7th, 2017

I have wanted to visit White Sands National Monument since I moved to New Mexico six years ago, and now on a sudden whim, I was finally able to do it.

As I have mentioned several times before New Mexico is full of hidden treasures. This state is absolutely beautiful and White Sands National Monument only enhances the wonders of this spectacular place.

White Sands possesses remarkable dunes of pure white gypsum crystals that covers 275 square miles. A National Monument since 1933 White Sands is one of the most magical places in the Southwest especially at sunset or sunrise.

Gathering of Nations

Thursday, May 4th, 2017

I enjoy living in Albuquerque for reasons of cool things to do all of the time. Some folks will disagree but there is a lot of fun stuff to do here. For example, I have been meaning to go to Gathering of Nations since I got here but haven’t done it until now, and wow, what an experience!

Gathering of Nations is a Powwow that has grown to one of the world’s most recognized annual festivals that spotlights Native people coming together to celebrate and share culture, singing and dancing.

It has been in Albuquerque for 33 years and hopefully there are no plans to move. Below are some photos, but I swear, they do nothing to display the true beauty of this event. ENJOY!

The New Year Is Here!

Monday, January 2nd, 2017

Another year is here! We are now in 2017. I hope this year will be better than 2016. My sister passing away unexpectedly was a shock to my family that will last a life time I’m sure. Just today, over coffee at Starbucks, my mother and I were talking about it. Talking about the subject and the same inner-topics we already spoke about 100 times seems to be healing. So we do it until the pain temporarily goes away. Only time will heal us completely.

However, to magically brightening things up this Christmas season, my little sister (from my father) finally found her way from Charlotte to Albuquerque. Even though we talk on the phone often, and I see what she is up to on Facebook, I haven’t physically seen her or my nephew in 11 years. When I first moved to New Mexico I tried to get her to visit and even relocate but it didn’t happen. Now the timing couldn’t have been better and below are some photos from her 8-day stay. Enjoy!

Christmas Fun

I participated in Christmas activities with my Sorors from the Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. We always have a good time when we get together for fellowship and this event was no different.

My Favorite Fall Activity

Friday, September 23rd, 2016

Fall just rolled in yesterday and I am already excited about the season’s activities. I don’t know why I can’t wait for Halloween to come. I am not going to do anything but hand out candy. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving but that is going to be low-key this year. I adore Fall colors. My home, my front yard, my wardrobe and my make-up all mirror the Fall colors I love. This blog even consists of Fall colors. The theme just moves me and I feel good in it.

14370391_10209487227051868_2884298635118753298_n

So my mom and I decided to go apple picking. Pick-your-own-apples is my favorite all-time Fall activity that my mom introduced to me when I was a teen. In New York we used to go every Fall at least twice in one season. As an adult I continued the family tradition and learned how to make all kinds of apple dishes.

14358844_10209487235132070_8930837682793776063_n

To my surprise this season apples are in full bloom in New Mexico and we found an orchard 45 minutes away in Belen. The folks there are the sweetest and the orchard is full of tasty apples on dwarf trees which makes picking them very easy.

14358680_10209487234772061_6395789974641221735_n

We picked Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Winesaps apples and I can’t wait to start baking pies, dumplings and tarts. My husband is not a big fan of raw apples but even he was impressed with the sweetness of Costanza apples.

Summer Lovin’

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

Hey! Hey! Hey! My favorite time of the year is here!

Hot, dry, blazing weather. Just the way I like it. Summer is so fabulous! Too fabulous for words and since I was a little girl, until now, I love experiencing, longer days, shorter nights, morning hikes, backyard barbecues, sunsets, sunrises, free concerts, ice cream, snow cones, frosted smoothies, homemade lemonade, maxi dresses, sandals, sunglasses, floppy hats, bronze skin, cornrows, big afros and box braids! What more could I ask for? Well, I could ask for a lot of things, but for now I am enjoying the hot weather while it last.

I haven’t really written any hair articles lately and that’s because I have been preoccupied with so many things. I can’t talk about everything right now but one day with my lawyer’s approval I will.

In the meantime, enjoy your summer and all that the warm nights bring!

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
—F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

“August rain: the best of the summer gone, and the new fall not yet born. The odd uneven time.”
―Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

“The castle grounds were gleaming in the sunlight as though freshly painted; the cloudless sky smiled at itself in the smoothly sparkling lake, the satin-green lawns rippled occasionally in a gentle breeze: June had arrived.”
―J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

“I have only to break into the tightness of a strawberry, and I see summer – its dust and lowering skies.”
―Toni Morrison, The Bluest Eye
