Permed to Natural is Married!

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Today is a big day. Some would say the most important day of my life. I am getting married at this very moment surrounded by family, friends and the open skies of Arizona. We selected this location because it possesses majestic red rocks and picture-perfect spectacular scenery.

This place is by far renowned for its magnificent landscape and regal mountains. It has been described in travel literature and bridal magazines as one of the most beautiful locations for weddings in the continental United States.

Tonight’s full moon makes this moment a magical day to get married. Wedding legend has it – at the time of each full moon the moon is blocked by the light of the sun in such a way that the transmission of the sun is direct and not disturbed by the moon. Getting married during a full moon creates a setting for the couple to begin a new life together when the alignment of all the planetary and solar centers is in its highest state of sensitivity and contact.

So wow! This day has finally arrived after five months of planning and a lifetime of dreaming. I am very thankful I had a wedding planner. If I had to do everything myself I would have lost my mind. The planning/approving I did was enough. Not to mention finding time for my fiancé, family, overseeing our business, working with AmeriCorps VISTA, moving, getting settled into a new house, picking out new furntiure, nursing a seriously wounded finger on my left hand, and not to mention, finding time for the other love of my life – Permed to Natural.

As for my hair, I decided to wear indiviual box braids and place them in a chignon on top of my head. It’s simple and still elegant. You guys already know what I went through to get my hair braided.

I am having a small wedding – 27 people. They are just more personal. There will be a vegan cake for me to eat and a regular cake for everyone else. My sweetie will help me eat the rest of my vegan cake. He is not a vegan but he is also not a picky eater. Well he is sort of veganish. I keep a vegan kitchen but when he eats out chicken, beef, and OMG, even pork is part of his main course.

We are going to save the top layer of the vegan cake to eat on our first anniversary. By doing that, it is said to bring good luck to the couple. That’s another wedding tradition we are going to incorporate.

Well, by now, I already jumped the broom, and “I’s married now!”

Hip-hip hooray for first time brides over 40!
