11 Months!

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

It’s been 11 months since my last perm. Time is flying.

Good Hair 101

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

When am I going to go to one of these all natural hair events?!  Today one of my Facebook friends suggested that I like “The Peace & Beauty Project” so I did because it is all about living a natural lifestyle. On Saturday, August 28 in Orlando, FL there will be a seminar on making natural and organic products. I wish I could go but I can’t. I already have plans in the works.

As many of you know I make my own natural products. Matter of fact, I will post two new recipes soon. But there is so much to learn in this area. Attending an event such as this would have been very helpful.

I am sorry I will miss it but if you are in the Orlando, Florida area check it out, and afterwards, tell us about your experience.

Miss Universe

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Congratulations to Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete of Guadalajara, for beating 82 other women to achieve the crown of Miss Universe 2010!

I have to be honest, I fell asleep and missed the crowning, but I did tape it so I’ll have to watch that part another day. I did see the top five answer their questions and thought Miss Jamaica (first runner up) and Miss Australia (second runner up) were just awesome.

However I still cannot beleive that Miss USA did not place. I don’t think I have ever watched this program where Miss USA did not make top 15. I think that was a first. I am still shocked.

Fashion Makeover with Jaclyn Smith

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

I was selected by Good Housekeeping TV and Kmart to have Jaclyn Smith spruce up my wardrobe by using her clothing line at Kmart.

I cannot believe Jaclyn Smith is going to give me a fashion makeover! I’ve always loved her. From her Charlie’s Angels days (oops – I’m dating myself) to her fabulous movies for television, she has remained a consistent class act.

This event is to celebrate Jaclyn’s 25th anniversary partnering with Kmart.

I am always filling out forms on various websites and in magazines to do something I’ve always wanted to do or have never experienced. About a year or more ago, I applied to receive a beauty makeover but didn’t hear from the producers until now. When I received the email  for a fashion makeover I responded with a big “Yes” right away without thinking twice.

The show will teach me how to highlight a variety of my own outfits by adding just a few accessories instead of running to the store to purchase a completely new ensemble. I need this kind of coaching because that is exactly what I do. I need to learn how to work with what I got.

I’ll keep you all posted on the outcome.

Representing Their Countries

Friday, August 20th, 2010

The Miss Universe Pageant’s preliminary competition is in full effect. The contestants represent their country each year with beautiful costumes and I really took a liking to Miss Haiti’s outfit. It symbolizes the tragedy from the earthquake. Well done!

Plus her hair reminds me of the bun and rose I wore in my hair for a week a couple of weeks ago. A friend told me I should wear the hair accessory again. I think I will.

Miss Zambia looks fantastic. A traditional African outfit that reminds me of my days as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Congo and back packing throughout Africa. I visited Zambia during my travels and had a wonderful experience. The country is beautiful.

And my own Miss USA is our country’s mascot, the beautiful bald eagle. She wrote a letter to Obama saying she’s going to represent him, the work he is doing and our country by wearing this costume.

The Miss Universe Pageant will air live from the Mandalay Bay Center in Las Vegas, NV Monday, August 23 at 9pm EST on NBC and Telemundo.

Y’all know I love pageantry!

Say What, Jill Scott!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

I wrote a post about Jill Scott and her beautiful natural afro not too long ago. Now she has relaxed her fro and is no longer rocking the nappy kinks.

Wow! Jill was one of my hair role models. I like her better as a natural.

Oh well. I still love her, though.

What do you guys think?

Faith Hill Parfums

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

I am just going to come out and say it – I like this scent a lot. Faith Hill Parfums is feminine, soft and graceful. It’s also sweet and sexy.

Faith Hill Parfums includes aromatic crisp pear, refreshing neroli and lush pink peony with exotic jasmine and gardenia that creates a sensuously elegant heart.

Ladies – I am sure the fellas will like this fragrance when they get close to you to whisper something in your ear…

Faith Hill Parfums is sold at mass retailers.

Being asked to review a variety of colognes by celebrities was an exciting experience. I hope my reviews will be of help in selecting the perfect aroma for you.

This is my 100th post! Yeah! I am moving and grooving.

Baby Phat Dare Me

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I love to wear perfume. I use it every day especially during the Summer because I wear less clothing and the scent is noticeable on me and not my clothes. Because I like to retouch my scent throughout the day, I have traveled with perfume, but in the end, I wish I hadn’t. The product leaked all over the place, things were ruined, and do I need to go on?

When I was contacted to review the new 25oz portable perfume called Baby Phat Dare Me by Kimora Lee I was happy to do so.

Baby Phat Dare Me portables are definitely easy to carry but I am no fan of the scent. There is a sweetness to it but there is also more of a sharp sting that reminds me of alcohol. I think it is too light and it doesn’t last at all. However, I do LOVE Kimora Lee. She is one of the best.

Baby Phat Dare Me includes a coconut top note that blends into a heart of velvety blackberry crème and vanilla orchid, with a warm drydown of crème de musk and sandalwood.

If you would like to sample Baby Phat Dare Me yourself, it can be purchased at local mass retailers.

Pure Orchid by Halle Berry

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I have always admired Halle Berry’s perfume collection and her new fragrance, Pure Orchid by Halle Berry, is at the top of my perfume list. I received a sample of Pure Orchid to review and since I am a big Halle Berry fan, I could not pass up the opportunity.

This scent is sweet, but clean, fresh and mild. It opens with top notes of crisp Italian Lemon, Papaya Nectar Fizz and Jungle Cactus Flower with exotic Masdevallia Orchid that reveals a mixture of scents.

Whatever fragrances are in this product they agree with me. I constantly receive compliments from men when I wear Pure Orchid.

The best thing about Pure Orchid is that it’s available at most mass retailers which means it is affordable.

I truly love this stuff.

Thumbs up!

Home Made Hair Cream – Second Batch

Monday, August 9th, 2010

I made a second batch of hair cream almost 6 months to the date of my first concoction. Because the cream has no preservatives, I didn’t want it to last no longer than 6 months. I ran out just in time.

This new batch contains almost the same ingredients as before. I used similar oils but they are a little different. I added new oils and processed the hair cream differently – by accident.  This is what I did.

  • 2 cups of White Raw Shea Butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Jojoba Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Avocado Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Almond Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Vitamin E Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Grapeseed Oil
  • Cedarwood Essential Oil – 10 drops
  • Rosemary Essential Oil – 10 drops
  • Thyme Essential Oil – 10 drops
  • Peppermint Essential Oil – 10 drops
  • Lavender Essential Oil – 11 drops (an extra drop fell out)
  • Tea Tree Essential Oil – 5 drops (it was dropping a little slow and I became impatient)

Unlike before some of the oils you cannot cook with. I wonder if it will make a difference? I added all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, on speed 1, I incorporated everything for 20 minutes.

I knew I had no Frankincense or Myrrh Oil to add to bring about a sweet fragrance. I was just going to use the hair cream as is but decided I could not put the smell of raw shea butter and essential oils in my hair.

So I covered the mixture with a plastic wrap and let it sit room temperature.

More than 24 hours later I purchased a small jar of Frankincense Oil and poured in 6 caps full.

I mixed the frangrance into the batch for just a few minutes. I didn’t notice a sweet smell right away, but I do know that the older the cream gets, the sweeter it smells.

Very creamy and fluffy.

Ready to use.
