Avocado Conditioning Treatment

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

I was looking for a deep conditioner but could not find one I liked so I went on YouTube in search of something and discovered plenty of videos on homemade conditioners made with avocados. I always knew avocados could be used as a great source for hair, but over time I forgot, and the videos reminded me that this fruit is an excellent outlet to a perfect conditioner.

For my avocado conditioner I used oils I already had in my house which are different from the oils in the videos. You can do your own thing too.  My recipe included:

1 avocado – organic

4 tablespoons of avocado oil -organic

2 tablespoons of molasses – organic

4 tablespoons of olive oil – organic

4 tablespoons of coconut oil – organic

Put all of the ingredients in a blender and blend on chop, stir, mix, food process, puree anything that will make the mixture smooth and creamy. You don’t want avocado chunks in your conditioner. It’s a pain to get out of your hair. You may have to stop the blender in between blending to stir the treatment a bit – but overall – that’s it!

After placing the treatment in my hair, I donned a heating cap for about 2 hours. By the time I reached the hair salon and had it washed out it had been in for 7 hours. I didn’t mean to keep it in that long. It just happened that way. Afterwards my hair was soft and curly. I really liked the way it felt. I plan to continue to use this conditioning treatment for a while to see how my hair shapes up. Below check out my pics and the videos that were my inspiration.

The treatment in my hair. No makeup again. What was I thinking.

Wow – see that’s another thing I need a blender – I used an electric hand mixer, guess that’s what cause the little hard to wash out avocado pieces.
